Chanel Soho Nail swatches - Strong and Steel

In my last post I mentioned that I also picked up the Chanel Soho nail polishes Strong and Steel. Both look extremely pretty in the bottle but both turned out to be very very dark on the nails. Steel was so pigmented, I only needed one coat!

Excuse the messy nail, I wanted to display how pigmented one coat was rather than fix my application :-) So that looks fairly true to colour, but appears slightly darker in natural light

I really got these polishes for Strong - it looked much more purple in store but it comes across more burgundy in real life. Oh and it also suffers from the Chanel paradoxal trick: it appears gorgeous in bottle but you'll be hard pressed getting that shimmer to show on your nails!

I took a lot of photos of this colour and it was fairly difficult to capture the colour. Most turned out like this daylight swatch (two coats):

Now if Chanel could stop bringing out gorgeous nail colours maybe I could start saving... for a new handbag! ;-)

Chanel Khaki Vert swatches

When I went to Sydney last weekend I discovered Myer was stocking the Chanel Khaki polishes. I was super excited but they only had Vert and Brun left - I wanted Rose as well as Vert. Oh well! I also picked up two other Chanel polishes from the Soho collection/range - Steel and Strong. Typical me getting suckered into a purple looking polish. Yeah it's not as purple as the promos show :-| I'm fairly certain fluorescent light makes everything look purple when it's really not.

As you might have already heard, Khaki Vert is very pigmented and you could get away with one coat if you were careful with your application. I went for two coats (no top coat):

Brilliant colour isn't it? I'm just happy when Chanel polishes turn out looking like they do in the bottle... I haven't swatched Steel yet but I'll put Steel and Strong up together at a later date.

I believe the Khaki range isn't being released here yet until October (according to the MA at David Jones) but Myer had them exclusively a little bit earlier. And it wasn't all Myers I don't think, just the one with the Chanel Makeup Studio. I know they aren't in Canberra Myer :-P

New Chanel Paradoxal :-)

Oh I was excited walking through David Jones despite my winter sickliness - all new things with the Summer launch. I was after Chanel's paradoxal and I now have it :-)

Looks absolutely gorgeous in the bottle doesn't it? My apologies for the two coats of mess that are below, I'm sill infected with this nasty cold/virus and am not steady handed :-)

That is with flash and you can see the gorgeous purple shimmer that everyone is 'oohing and ahhing' over. But in reality this purple shimmer is not going to be obvious:

So that's without flash and the glare of any direct light. But don't get me wrong, step out into daylight and you see the shimmer:

Pretty isn't it? I also spied a nice peach lipgloss that I think I need....Petit Peche? Gorgeous. I like the enigma quad but me thinks it's too dark/bold for my taste. Well too dark to go spending $98 on anyway ;-)

Chanel Particuliere vs Essie Mink Muffs

I was trying to call my bank last night and was on hold for 20 mins. Plenty of time to do this little experiment and compare Chanel's Particuliere to Essie Mink Muffs :-) I don't think it's a dupe of Chanel but it's very similar. At least from a distance :-P And in the bottle! Here we have flash and daylight:



Flash you can see an obvious difference. Essie is darker but in daylight they look very similar:



Comparing the swatches side by side, it's hard to tell a clear difference and quite honestly if I were to go to work with one hand Chanel, one hand Essie, no one is going to say anything:

To me Essie looks more like a chocolate brown while Chanel is a more taupe brown.

I asked the boyfriend which one he liked better (without knowing which was which) and he picked the Chanel. Nice choice :-)

Friday Haul: Chanel Rouge Coco, more OPI

I couldn't resist. I went to David Jones unguarded, the bf off doing something else... My only intention was the OPI nail polish from the Hong Kong collection - meet me on the star ferry, which I have been after for a while. Then while I was at it, decided to get Mod About You (light pink) which was also on my wishlist. And I figured why not make this a haul and get Blue My Mind :-) I *almost* got the Hong Kong blue nail polish Suzi Says Feng Shui but I wanted shimmer!

I also purchased a Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in 02 (Perle). I just couldn't help myself. I've seen too many blog posts and videos with swatches and other pretty pictures. It was lovely as a swatch on my hand in store, but when I got home I felt it was too brown for me. I thought it would be more pinky, but I probably just needed to apply less. I think I'll give it to mum though, she has greater appreciation for Chanel than I do :-) I am thinking about getting mademoiselle though... hmm.

Chanel Nails - Lilac Sky

So I'm not really a Chanel person. I'm not a fan of most of their perfumes (my mum is though!) but I was home for Christmas when I spotted a new Chanel stand at the local chemist. I was impressed, we don't normally have that type of thing in my home town :-P So I perused the small selection of nail polishes and Lilac Sky caught my eye!

Anyway I love how the chemist always gives you free samples. And they *should* with the price of those Chanel nail polishes :-|



Yeah I think the men's facial scrub was due to the presence of my bf but let me tell you right now it's crap. Too rough and not effective. And I'm not particularly certain of the shade of the Estée Lauder lipstick (since I gave it to my mum), but hey, free lippie! :-D

I took an iPhone photo on Christmas day when I wore this nail colour:



I regretted not getting some of the OPI lilac colours so this makes up for it.
